Thats go to know now I will have to figure out what I can get for $74000. That to bad I would have got a Platinum if they did not put a limit on the rebate.
Is it possible for you to buy a Platinum if you have a trade in or put cash down to lower the price of the Platinum to say 74,000 or less and get the rebate, or not.

I assume they will treat this the same as the sales tax. At lease in California, we pay the sales tax on the amount before the price was reduced by the trade in. The trade in is more like a cash down payment.

So do you think by doing what I suggested it would allow someone who wants a Platinum to receive the full rebate. I would not have a problem with the rebate because I am looking at the XLT.

I think if the MSRP is above $74k, there won’t be a rebate. Ford could pull something like Tesla does in Canada and sell a model for $1 under the rebate limit and then add the difference in upgrades after market.

I hope so. That works for me

You are right. But it looks like this bill is going to change a lot. A senator has amended the bill to make it so it will not apply to cars costing more then $40,000

This is crap! My guess is you will still get a nice credit to buy a Tesla PowerWall that if all goes well with your electric utility will just sit there unused for the useful life of its battery - gobbling up nickel, cobalt, lithium etc that could be used for more EV batteries. Elon Musk as a friend of the environment??? Give me a break!

It looks like the bill will not pass Senator Manchin got $5000,000 from Exxon and they do not want any bills that will help us move to renewable energy. ( We have the best politician money can buy ) So that will help me I will be able to get the $7,500 without a limit. Its only a tax credit but I can use it to move my wife's retirement money into a roth.

It will not stand. It’s just a conservative attack on EVs so they can tell their oil company bosses (donors) that they tried to kill the EV tax credit. But Biden is very committed to making EV tax credits even better, not worse. In fact, they are attempting to make it so that even if you paid less in taxes, you would get the full $7500 benefit. Plus $2500 for vehicles made in the US. Plus another $2500 for vehicles made in the US with union labor. Those would both apply to Ford, so the potential full rebate if the Dems get their bill through reconciliation will be $12,500. And the vehicle price cap would be $80,000, not $40,000. So only the Platinum and high-level Lariats would be priced out.
Conservative attack??? Liberals can now tell their union bosses (donors) that they got them an additional $2,500.

This liberal vs conservative talk is garbage. The credit has been terrible up until now, something mainly for millionaires buying their 3rd or more likely 5th car. With things like the child tax credit (something greatly expanded by Trump BTW) already reducing many families tax liability down to a few thousand if not zero or negative the EV credit had no room to run for regular Joe's. The first fix to the EV credit was done under Trump making the child tax credit fully refundable. That means it goes after the EV credit rather than before which is what it used to do under Obama. Still why with all of this has there not been a realistic cap on income to receive the credit. Does someone making $500k a year really need an extra $10k fun money? Somebody making under $100k that money is needed for real relief, not just fun. Same thing goes on the price of the car. If you can afford a $110,000 Model X do you really need a rebate? It pushed manufactures to make more expensive, wasteful sized battery EVs that are toys for their owners, rather than fill the streets with affordable but still functional EVs to be used as daily tools to keep America commuting to work and school. Two 50Kw EVs are better than one 100Kw and battery manufacturing is the limiting factor in EVs now.

I'm personally libertarian and think the whole system and tax code is junk, but especially taxes used to try and move consumers or reward political factions. It's both liberals and conservatives to blame. That said I'll be taking my $7500 rebate or more every year it is available, and any other rebate I can get my hands on as it is what it is at this point, but I will always vote for people who want to simplify and make the tax code fair. Not using it as a weapon to punish or a cake to reward. Thank God for anyone trying to make the system more as intended which today is Sen. Manchin. These things should all be stand alone bills and subject to standard senate procedures needing 60 votes to advance. Not buried in some reconciliation budget package that was never intended to be used to double or triple existing bills.

With the comment that everyone should cancel their order because this new proposed incentive would be effective after Dec 31, he seems to think that Tesla is the only company selling EVs. If you have an ID.4, Mach-E, or any other non Tesla or GM on order, don’t cancel your order. The $7,500 will still be in effect and there is still no guarantee that new proposal will make it through congress as the progressive caucus has already said they don’t support this bill.

If people do cancel their Q4 model 3 orders, then Tesla can just sell those cars to Hertz and complete the order a year ahead of schedule.

Correct me if I am wrong. The way I see it is,there is no harm in placing an order the harm would come if you take delivery before the first of the year.

That is true too. My point was that it only impacts Tesla and GM while the guy in the video tells everyone to cancel all EV orders. If your have a Mach-E scheduled for delivery next month don’t cancel it. In some cases it is actually better to get your car this year. If you have a Lucid order scheduled for delivery this year, definitely don’t cancel it as the Lucid may not get the credit anymore next year.

I agree with you. Don’t cancel it if they get the point of sale rebate the dealer may hold it for you until after the first of the new year, there's not much of this year left.

I would like to know if I order a Platinum that is over $74,000 can I seal get the $7,500 tax credit because of the $74000 cap

If I am understanding correct on what I just read you should be eligible for the 7 , 500 point of sale rebate. But you would not be eligible for the others if your over 74,000
Thanks I hope you are right ........That works for me!
