I went to my dealer yesterday to try and sort this out. With a reservation in the first few minutes of 5/19 I was willing to pay a premium to order an ER Lariat for the MY22 and be one of the first in the country to have an EV truck. But an invitation never came for MY22 and now that I'm finally invited to order a MY23 my cheapest option is a Lariat. For me it just doesn't make sense. Everyone has their own set of priorities and I don't like the pricing games anymore than the next but this is what capitalism looks like. So by the time I look at spending well over 70k for a truck, I'm going to need more than 300 miles of range to further justify it for myself. And at that point I am very close to 90k for a lightning. At this point I'm kicking myself for cancelling my earlier R1T reservation in favor of the lightning but I'm right back there. For me at that price I'll take the risk on losing a dealer network and no whole home backup power in favor of a much more unique looking truck with styling I prefer and supercar acceleration and the adjustable air suspension. My dealer told me their Ford rep didn't give them an option to defer my reservation and that it was unclear to all of them if I was just to slip to the next MY or get dropped altogether. I tried to secure a PRO order at the dealer knowing it will likely be 2 - 3 years and I'm still willing to do so because even with the price hike I still think the PRO is an untouchable deal. But the price will only continue to rise as we all know. Everyone sticking with Ford and ordering up on a Lariat when you really wanted an XLT or a Pro, I am confident you will still love your truck and you'll get it sooner than I'll get my Rivian but that is the beauty of the growing options! Hopefully frunk is right as usual and when I call Ford today I can defer my reservation and still get a Lightning or even better an electric hotrod Maverick or Ranger in a few years for a decent price. You have to call Ford to defer
