DETROIT, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) sees a robust market for electric trucks and vans by 2030, but it is facing some early pushback from commercial customers that are a key audience for the automaker's new F-150 Lightning and E-Transit, a top executive said on Thursday. The Lightning pickup and E-Transit van "are targeted at real people doing real work," said Ted Cannis, chief executive of Ford Pro, at the Reuters Events Automotive Summit. But some of those potential fleet buyers are taking a "wait and see" attitude, partly from a lack of experience with electric vehicles and partly from a lack of clarity on government policy and regulations around EVs. Ford and South Korean battery manufacturer SK Innovation will spend a combined $11.4 billion to build several new factories in the Tennessee and Kentucky focused on the development and production of electric vehicles and the batteries that power them. The new facilities represent the first new plants built by Ford, completely from scratch, in over 50 years. The Tennessee plant will be a “mega campus” that houses a vehicle-production facility for Ford’s F-series pickup trucks and a battery assembly division, while the twin factories in Kentucky will manufacture lithium-ion batteries. The facilities won’t come online until 2025, but Ford CEO Jim Farley says the investment signals the seriousness with which the company is taking its...

Ford is telling dealers not to advertise the new F-150 Lightning for less than MSRP in a move that could frustrate buyers looking to get the best deal. According to a bulletin sent yesterday to dealers, the brand won't allow any F-150 Lightning EV prices to be listed for less than sticker price or else risk losing a major subsidy. The rule stems from a Minimum Allowable Advertised Price (MAAP) first implemented with the Mustang Mach-E that has since been extended to the 2022 F-150 Lightning truck. Both models don't have a traditional invoice price, and running afoul of the rule could result in dealers missing out on a sizable payout from Ford. Continue reading @ CarsDirect.com
DETROIT – Ford Motor said Tuesday it hired former Tesla and Apple executive Doug Field to lead its emerging technology efforts, a key focus for the automaker under its new Ford+ turnaround plan. Field — who led development of Tesla’s Model 3 —most recently served as vice president of special projects at Apple, which reportedly included the tech giant’s Titan car project. The hire is a major addition for Ford and a big hit to Apple and its secret car project, which the company has yet to confirm exists. “I think any time you lose a well-respected, experienced executive who, as best we can tell, was really directing the automotive efforts at Apple, it’s a blow to any company,” Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi, who covers the iPhone...
Check out the new 2022 Ford F150 Lightning by looking at a cutaway and a Platinum model. We see that the Lightning F-150 is built just like an F150 while examining the battery, motors, aerodynamics, and mega power frunk that make it different. Town and Country TV also showcases technology such as the tailgate step, work surface, and outlets that make the Ford Lightning similar to the Ford F-150. Having the ability to see the cutaway was very informative and gave us an idea of the underpinnings of the vehicle. Something to note about the Lighting is that it has dual motors, one in the front and one in the back. This vehicle comes with an eight-year, 100,000 mile warranty on the electrical components. It also features independent rear...
As worsening storms deprive more neighborhoods of power, the home-generator function of the new Ford F-150 Lightning has no doubt helped sell out 120,000 pre-orders. Folks who buy a Lightning and opt for the Ford Charge Station Pro home charger unit will be the first customers capable of returning power to their home or participating in vehicle-to-grid charging, dropping energy back into the grid for credits or payments from energy companies.
